Factors influencing structural heat-induced structural relaxation of dissolved organic matter

2018

Abstract Physical and chemical structure affect properties of dissolved organic matter (DOM). Recent observations revealed that heating and cooling cycles at higher temperature amplitude lead to a change in DOM physical conformation assumingly followed by a slow structural relaxation. In this study, changes at lower temperature amplitudes and their relation to DOM composition were investigated using simultaneous measurements of density and ultrasonic velocity in order to evaluate the adiabatic compressibility, which is sensitive indicator of DOM structural microelasticity. Six fulvic acids (FAs) having various origins were analyzed at concentrations of 0.12, 0.6 and 1.2 g L−1 and at differe…

Collapsible intact soil stabilisation using non-aqueous polymeric vehicle

2020

Abstract This paper presents the results of an experimental study that had the goal of understanding the effects of treatment with polyethylene glycol (PEG)/nanolime mixtures on collapsible soil behaviour. In a previous study, the use of pure PEG offered a good improvement in the stability of collapsible soil, but the stabilisation effect only lasted for a limited time. To investigate the stabilisation potential of PEG/nanolime systems for collapsible sand, different mixtures were prepared at increasing nanolime weight ratios. The suitability of the stabilised soil was examined on the basis of collapsibility, oedometer, shear, and water vapour permeability tests, and through optical microsc…

Volumetric and Acoustic Properties of Aqueous Solutions of Trifluoromethanesulfonate-Based Ionic Liquids at Several Temperatures

2012

In this work, densities and sound velocities of three ionic liquids, 3-butyl-1-ethylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, 3-butyl-1-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate, and their binary mixtures with water have been obtained at p = (101 ± 2) kPa and T = (278.15 to 338.15) K, covering the whole range of concentration. The isentropic compressibility and molar isentropic compression of pure components and mixtures have been calculated using the Newton–Laplace equation. Moreover, the excess molar volume and excess molar isentropic compression of mixtures have been then determined, and they have been fitted to temperature and …
